What are titanium filler rods (titanium welding rods) used for?

They are usually used for wherever titanium parts need to be weld together. Such as titanium tubes weld, titanium sheet to sheet weld, titanium pipes and pipe fittings weld, titanium chemical equipment parts weld,and so on.

How to choose the size of titanium filler rod?

Generally speaking, it depends on the thickness of the titanium base metal. You'd better choose a titanium filler rod which diameter is slightly less than the thickness of the titanium base metal being welded. When you weld titanium exhaust tubes with pie cuts, 1mm titanium filler rod would be better. When titanium flanges weld to pipes, diameter 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.2mm, 2.4mm, .... welding rods would be used depending on the welding techniques.

What grade of welding rod is titanium?

In AWS A5.16 specification, there are as much as 30+ grades of titanium. But the most popular grades of titanium welding rod are ERTI-1, ERTI-2, ERTI-3, ERTI-4,ERTI-5, ERTI-7, ERTI-12, ERTI-23 .

What filler rod is used for titanium ?

When the base metal is titanium, the titanium filler rod should be used.

How to choose the right titanium weld rod (also known as titanium welding wire or titanium filler rod) grade?

It is better to choose a filler metal which match the properties and composition of the titanium base metal grade. For example, when you'd like to connect grade 2 titanium tube with grade 2 flanges, then grade 2 (erti-2) filler wire would be the best choice. And if the base metal is titanium grade 5, grade 5 ( erti-5) filler rod is the best choice. Sometimes, for both commercial pure titanium grades, a weld rod which strength lever is below the base metal can also be used.
